Surat Diamond Bourse may start functioning by the end of 2021

Surat: The construction of the Surat Diamond Bourse is 85 percent completed and it will start functioning possibly in December this year, it is learnt.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani visited the under construction Surat Diamond Bourse at Khajod, Surat on Sunday. During his visit inside one of the diamond bourse buildings, Rupani from a window noticed a garbage mountain in a nearby disposal site and said that the garbage site will be emptied within 6 months. The lobby of the first floor of the diamond bourse is ready. The offices larger than 1500 square feet have been allotted to respective firms for furniture work inside.

Diamond bourse committee members in interaction with the Chief Minister requested to invite PM Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin for inauguration of this bourse as maximum rough diamonds are imported here from Russia.

During the visit, Chamber President Dinesh Navadiya and MLA Harsh Sanghvi requested CM Rupani to develop an IT (Information Technology) hub in the dream-city. In response, CM Rupani suggested they come up with a presentation regarding it after 10 days to capital Gandhinagar.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel during the visit acquainted themselves with the progress of the project during their meeting with Bourse office-bearers, representatives of Chamber of Commerce and diamond merchants.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupani said the Surat Diamond Bourse is projected to be the world’s largest corporate offices’ hub, in line with the world’s tallest statue, Statue of Unity, Solar Renewable Energy Park and Cricket Stadium.

He said that State Government has always been committed for the development of the diamond industry in Surat and with the completion of the Bourse, Surat will be on the forefront of diamond trading.

Surat Diamond Bourse Director Mathurbhai Savani said the hub taking shape on 36 acres is for diamond merchants of the world to buy polished diamonds. He thanked State Government, Surat Municipal Corporation, District Administration, and others for their support and cooperation.
