Prabhas Patan: Purohit brahmins here have concluded their fast protests.

Purohits who perform religious ceremonies at Triveni ghat located some distance away from Somnath mandir had started protest agitation against an order by district administration banning asthi visarjan and pind dan at Triveni sangam where Hiran and Saraswati rivers meet the Arabian sea.

After intervention by local BJP leaders, compromise has arrived, as per which an old controversial notification stays cancelled. A new notification will allow asthi visarjan and pind dan immersion in sea but continue to ban immersion of chunddi, textile, coconut, flowers, plastic bags, cooked or raw food items and any time of garbage.

Purohits have agreed to the provisions that are to be made in a new notification promised by district collector.

Fast protest was ended by BJP state secretary Zaverbhai Thakrar, BJP chief Mansih Parmar and Municipality president Piyush Fofandi among others.DeshGujarat
