150 more electric buses to operate in Surat by start of next year

Surat: State Government has recently released a grant of Rs 6.84 crores for operation of the electric buses in Surat city, following which, new 150 electric buses will start operating in the city till December 2021, it is learnt.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has already given a contract for purchase of 150 new electric buses. The agency has ensured to supply all the buses till December this year. At present, 37 electric buses are operating in the city and 12 electric buses are under the process of RTO passing.
SMC has planned to operate more electric buses in the city rather than conventional buses running on diesel to protect the environment. State government had announced release of grant of Rs 27.37 crores every year to SMC as viability gap fund for the operation of electric buses in the city. DeshGujarat
