Ten Congress councilors in AMC offer resignations to party chief

Ahmedabad: Ten Congress corporators have offered their resignations protesting party’s move to appoint Shehzadkhan Pathan as leader of opposition. Due to infighting within opposition Congress party block in Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC), the decision on appointment of leader of opposition has been pending for last nine months.

Recently, the new State party chief Jagdish Thakor had initiated efforts for selection of leader of opposition in AMC. Various formulas were thought about including the one in which four different corporators would become the leader of opposition for one year each. Since last evening, speculations were rife that corporator Shehzadkhan Pathan would be made leader of opposition.

Opposing this move, a group of Congress corporators visited State party chief today at State party headquarters in Ahmedabad. Congress corporator Rajshriben after this meeting told media persons that 11 Congress corporators have offered their resignations in a meeting with State party chief. According to another woman corporator who was present in the meeting with State party chief today, ten corporators have offered resignations so far, while another four are going to tender their resignations later as some of them are covid positive and some are engaged in some family event.

Corporators who met State party chief were told that party has not decided for anyone’s appointment yet, and therefore there’s no question of opposing anyone’s appointment. It is learnt that Nirav Bakshi, Kamlaben Chavda, Rajshri Kesri, Jamnaben Vegda, Kamini ben, Samira Sheikh, Kapilaben, Taslim Baba Tirmizi are among those who have offered their resignation.
