Ahmedabad: Ten Congress corporators of Congress party in Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had yesterday offered their resignations over party’s possible move to appoint corporator Shehzad Khan Pathan as leader of opposition in AMC. Some of corporators who met State party chief Jagdish Thakor over this issue, even spoke to media and in their bytes said that they had resigned and four more Congress corporators are going to resign soon.
The party today in reply to media queries said that disciplinary actions will be taken against those corporators who spoke to media in a fashion that may harm the party.
Senior Congress leader and MLA CJ Chavda told media persons that State party president has taken a serious note of remarks made by corporators before media. Chavda said, party’s disciplinary committee would access the videos of interviews given by corporators to media and propose actions against those corporators who spoke in a fashion that may harm party’s image. Chavda said every corporator has right to make representation before party but they can’t speak something in media that may harm party’s image. Chavda said, party had not taken any decision even on appointment of certain person as leader of opposition in AMC.
Chavda hinted party’s expected move to change the leader of opposition and the deputy leader of opposition each year, and thereby give 8 corporators a chance to lead the elected group of Congress party in AMC.
