PM Narendrabhai to inaugurate water supply scheme for tribal belt of Dahod and Chhota Udepur

Dahod: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Dahod District Southern Area Regional Water Supply Scheme on 20th April. Earlier known as the Hafeshwar project, the 893 crore scheme was launched in September 2016 on the 66th birthday of the Prime Minister. The 12.48 lakh tribal population residing in the remote areas of eastern Gujarat, will now receive the water from the Narmada basin. As reported in The Indian Express, approximately 1,550 kilometres pipeline network has been laid to supply the water of Narmada river to the tribal belt of Chhota Udepur district and southern areas of Dahod district.

The salient features of the project are:

· The beneficiaries of the scheme include 285 villages and a town in South Dahod, 85 villages and one town in Chhota Udepur district.

· Drinking water supply will be ensured in 34 villages in Garbada, 33 villages of Limkheda, 90 villages of Dhanpur and 79 villages from Devgarh Bariya talukas of Dahod district as well as the town of Devgarh Bariya.

· One of the intake structures has been constructed near Hafeshwar in Chhota Udepur district. Two boosting stations will pump the water to the storage sump located at Moti Chikhli village about 10 kilometres away. Water will be pumped into the main pipeline from here and pushed ahead using gravity towards the sub headwork station at Kevdi, located about 63 kilometres away in Chhota Udepur district.

· From Kevdi, the water will be pushed through the main pipeline for a distance of 32 kilometres to Pipero in Dhanpur taluka of Dahod district.

· Further, water will be pushed to Amli boosting station, located 42 kilometres away via Kantu boosting station to Sangasar head works located about 10 kilometres away.

· Another intake structure is constructed at Patadungri dam in Dahod taluka. Water will be carried from here to Mohankhob lake head works in Garbada taluka of the same district.
