Surat: SMC defers reopening of Ring Road flyover bridge to end-June
May 23, 2022
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), despite strenuous efforts, has been unable to complete the rehabilitation work of the Ring Road Flyover Bridge, and reopening it for traffic may not be possible before the end of June.
Under the original plan, the Ring Road Flyover bridge was to remain closed for traffic from March 9, 2022 to May 8, 2022, to undertake repairing work. However, the repairing work couldn’t be completed till May 8, and the SMC then announced that the bridge would remain closed for traffic till June 15.
However, because the work of super structure lifting and bearing replacement is time consuming, the SMC believes that it would not be possible to complete repairs of the bridge even till June 15 and would be dragged out till end-June.
Meanwhile, the Sahara Darwaza Railway Overbridge is ready to be opened up for traffic but the SMC believes that until work on the Ring Road Flyover Bridge is not completed, opening the former will not serve the purpose.
Therefore, the SMC has decided to open both the bridges for traffic at the end of June.
