Clamor for raising renewable power consumption limit for industries to 100%
June 08, 2022
Surat: Office bearers of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) run industrial estate at Sachin have made a written representation to state energy minister Kanubhai Desai seeking change allowing industries with High-Tension power connections to use 100% renewable energy.
During the meeting, the President of Sachin Industrial Co-operative Society, Rama Ramoliya, told the minister that industries are having to cut production due to power shortage. To resolve this issue, he requested the minister to allow industries with HT power connections to use 100% of their power consumption from renewable energy instead of a government circular that restricts industries to consuming only 50% of their total power consumption from renewable sources.
According to Ramoliya, the present power shortage of the state is owing to the scarcity of coal and using power from renewable sources can mitigate this situation. Besides, environmental concerns can be assuaged by using more and more renewable energy, he added.
He has demanded that an urgent notification increasing the renewable power consumption limit of industries be issued immediately. DeshGujarat.
