6 cities of Gujarat to host 36 sports of 36th National Games; Ahmedabad to host inaugural, Surat valedictory ceremony

Gandhinagar: The 36th National Games will be held in Gujarat from 27th September to 10th October 2022. More than 25,000 players will participate in the event which will be held in 6 cities- Ahmedabad, Surat, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Rajkot to host 36 sports.
The inaugural ceremony will be held in Ahmedabad at the World’s Largest Stadium – the Narendra Modi stadium. 14 sports competitions will be held at 8 places in Ahmedabad followed by 8 competitions at 3 places in Gandhinagar, 2 at 3 places in Rajkot, 3 at one place in Bhavnagar, 4 at one place in Vadodara and 4 at 2 places in Surat.
Gujarat is set to host the games and the players with the best infrastructure, accommodation that ranges from 3-star hotels to 5-star hotels and quality food. It is for the first time that the state is hosting the National Games. Sports facilities, across Gujarat, have been inspected by officers of the National Federation.
Gujarat has been selected to host the National Games owing to its expertise in hosting and organising events like the Khel Mahakumbh, which hosts 55 lakh players; the Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summits which have completed 9 editions so far etc. To add, the state is well connected with road, rail and air routes to all major cities of India. The Narendra Modi Stadium, Mahatma Mandir, IIT Gandhinagar and Gujarat University are capable of providing world-class facilities for sports. This is a crucial moment for the state and the country as India is expected to host the Olympics in the future.
Minister of Sports, Youth and Cultural Affairs, Mr Harsh Sanghavi said, “Gujarat government is dedicated to supporting and providing its youth with training and related facilities. Today, we have world-class stadiums and training facilities. The new generation is being prepared through events like Khel Mahakumbh. It is a pride to host the 36th National Games and the government is on its toes for necessary preparation”.
