Ahmedabad: India was stalled, decisions were not taken, everything was delayed during the Congress led UPA govt in Centre.
The Co-Founder of Infosys, N R Narayana Murthy had an interaction with young entrepreneurs and students at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
During his interaction Murthy said, “I used to be on the board of HSBC in London (between 2008 and 2012). In the first 2-3 years, when China was mentioned three times in the boardroom (during meetings), India’s name would be mentioned once. But unfortunately, I don’t know what happened (to India) afterwards. While Manmohan Singh is an extraordinary individual and I have tremendous respect for him, somehow, India stalled. Decisions were not taken and everything was delayed.”
“By the time I left HSBC, while China’s name was taken nearly 30 times, India’s name may be or may not be mentioned once during meetings,” he added.
Murthy further said, “Everyone looked at India as a land of filth and poverty, most westerners looked down upon India. But today, there is a certain level of respect for the country, it may be not very high but still, there is a certain level of respect.”
Murthy credited this respect gained by the nation to the 1991 economic reforms and the present schemes of the NDA government like ‘Make In India’ and ‘Startup India’.
