Rs 877 crore tender approved for redevelopment of Surat railway station

Surat: A tender of Rs 877 crore has been approved for the new Surat railway station. The works on this project are targeted to be completed within 4 years.

The project is about developing the Surat Railway station as the Multimodal Transport Hub. The cement godown near the Delhi gate is shifted near Udhna as part of this project. Over 20 trains originate and terminate from Surat railway station at present. The administration has asked the Railway Board to shift them to Udhna railway station. After the approval, the trains will originate and terminate from Udhna railway station in stead of Surat.

The works for the Multimodal Transport Hub will be executed in 3 phases. The works will be completed in 4 years. RLDA, SITC, SMC and GSRTC will participate in this project. The work on this project has been started from the Eastern side of Surat railway station. The multimodal transport hub will be based on an engineering procurement & construction model. Total 3,31,491 square meters of land is allotted for the project. The transformed railway station of Surat will have facilities like a skywalk, lounge, medical room, and retail space. DeshGujarat
