Gujarat HC announces launch of virtual traffic court under the eCourts project

Ahmedabad: The One Nation One Challan project has been successfully integrated with Traffic Police Challans and RTO Challans in the state of Gujarat. As a result, the Virtual Traffic Court, under the aegis of the eCourts Project, has been implemented in Gujarat with help from the eCommittee of the Supreme Court of India and assistance from the NIC team at Pune, Maharashtra.

With the approval of Acting Chief Justice Mr. Justice A. J. Desai, who is also the Chairperson of the I.T. Committee of the High Court, and the Judges of the I.T. Committee, the Virtual Traffic Court has been made operational at the Metropolitan Court in Ahmedabad from today, the 3rd of May 2023.

The Virtual Traffic Court has been designed to eliminate the need for litigants to appear in person at court, as the virtual court system allows court users and vehicle owners to complete all proceedings online. If an eChallan fine amount is not paid within 90 days, the eChallan is automatically transmitted to the servers of Virtual Traffic Court. Upon the Virtual Traffic Court taking up the matter and issuing notice, an SMS notice will be sent to the mobile phone of the vehicle owner.

Thereafter, the vehicle owner can pay the imposed fine through online payment mode or choose to contest the case in the regular court.

About the Virtual Court:
In the current scenario, a facility is provided for litigants to file the plaint electronically through e-Filing and also pay the court fees or fine online through https://vcourts.gov.in. Litigants can view the status of the case online through various channels created for service delivery. However, for adjudication purposes, the litigant may have to appear in person or through a lawyer in the court. The Virtual Court is a concept aimed at eliminating the presence of the litigant or lawyer in the court and adjudicating the case online. DeshGujarat
