In two matters, Govt suffered ₹20 crores loss due to SK Langa, more matters under probe: Police

Gandhinagar: Police today in a briefing on former IAS officer SK Langa’s arrest stated that so far estimated Rs. 20 crore worth of loss to the government has been found prima facie in this case.

Police said the documents submitted along with the complaint have one lakh pages and police is going through them. Police also said that at present just two decisions of Langa are being investigated but more than over two dozen matters will be looked into in the course of the investigation.

Addressing the media, Range IG Abhay Chudasama said Langa was hiding in a bungalow in Mount Abu and Police arrested him from there based on a tip-off. A case against Langa was filed by a Gandhinagar district administration official.

Police said Langa’s certificate of being a farmer appear fake. The Police probed into this at his native village near Bhanvad in this connection and there were no supporting records to show that Langa is actually a farmer.

Police in its briefing further stated that Langa’s assets include four bungalows in Junagadh, a flat and a bungalow in Ahmedabad, a rice mill, and some lands.

Police said Langa is also a partner in Amiraj Buildcon. Police in a reply to a media query stated that no journalist’s connection to this case has emerged so far.

Langa will be presented before the court today and a remand will be requested.

Speaking on Langa’s benami property, the IG said that SK Langa allegedly owns four bungalows in Junagadh and land in Matar. In addition, Langa also has property in relatives’ names, including lands, flats, and bungalows in Ahmedabad. It has also been discovered that SK Langa has a stake in Amiraj Build Con. Allegedly, he also owns a rice mill.

Regarding the matter pertaining to the land in Matar, Langa’s farming certificate also seems to be fake as no information regarding such was found in the records of his hometown of Shivagam. The suspicion of Benami properties in the names of other family members is being investigated further, the officer added.

According to the police complaint, former District Collector of Gandhinagar S.K. Langa misused his position as the then Chitnish and R.A.C during his tenure. He made a pre-planned conspiracy for the financial benefit of his accomplices, manipulated Non-Agriculture (NA) orders for land, and caused a financial loss to the government by showing non-farmers as farmers without paying the premium due to the government.
