Mystery of a lion’s death solved; Two nabbed and sent to judicial custody

Gir Somnath: Two farmers from Anandpur village in Kodinar taluka allegedly threw the dead body of a lion in water after the lion died due to an electric shock as it came into contact with electric fencing in their farm.
A pedestrian witnessed the smell of a dead body from the Babarva area while passing from a bridge near Anandpur Pedhavada village in Ghantvad 2 bit of Ganthvad round of Jamvada range on August 18th. He informed a former sarpanch about it. The former sarpanch informed the forest department. The local officers from the forest department sent the dead body of a lion to the Jamvala rescue center for a postmortem. It was revealed in the postmortem that the 5-year-old lion died due to electric shock.
The team of the forest department started the investigation in the Babarva-Nera area and conducted an inquiry, following which a name of a farmer Jitubhai Parmar was revealed as a suspect. Parmar when questioned, confessed that the lion died due to an electric current after he came into contact with an active electric line illegally taken from a TC to save his groundnut crops on the farm from nilgai and wild boars.
It was revealed that the lion died in the early morning of August 14 due to an electric shock. Jitubhai kept the dead body of the lion hidden on the farm for that day. Later on August 15, Jitubhai, with the help of his brother Virbhan Parmar, threw the dead body into the water at Babarva Nera area at 2 a.m.
The two accused, Jitubhai and Virbhanbhai, were produced in the Kodinar court. The Kodinar court rejected their bail plea and sent them to judicial custody in Junagadh. DeshGujarat
