Ahmedabad: 21-year old Sunil Naidu and his neighbor and friend Sania Sheikh were stopped attacked when they were returning on a Jupiter two-wheeler from Sabarmati Riverfront in the afternoon on August 26. Three radical persons from Muslim community stopped and attacked them because Sania is a Muslim and Sunil is a Hindu.

As per the FIR filed by Sunil, the attackers told him – ‘You are Hindu and you go around with our Muslim girl’. Sunil’s mobile phone was looted during the attack. He was slapped by three attackers and verbally abused. Sania was also slapped.

A video of this incident went viral on social media widely, following which, Danilimida Police started a probe and arrested three accused identified by victim Sunil.

The accused are Akbarkhan Pathan, from Pathan ni chali, Faizan Sheikh from Chirag Park and Hussain Sahiyad fro Allahnagar in Danilimda. Police arrested them and booked under IPC sections 392, 394, 323, 153A(1), 294(b), 506(1) and 114 as per Sunil’s complaint. Sania has been shown as a witness in this case.

Sunil in his complaint said at around 2 pm on 26 August he and his neighbor Sania Sheikh were returning from Riverfront to their residents. Three people stopped the scooter near Chirag higher secondary school opposite Moti bakery and inquired about their names and address. They told Sania Sheikh, ‘you are the daughter of whom, let’s call your parents”. They then slapped Sania.

Sunil says he told attackers that parents of both of them(his and Sania’s) are well aware of their relations. The attackers told Sunil – ‘you are Hindu and you go around with our Muslim girl’. The people nearby gathered and abusive words were hurled targeting Sunil. He was also slapped.

Sunil says one of the people looted a Samsung brand mobile phone worth Rs. 10,000. A video related to this incident was made viral on social media, based on which the accused were identified. Sunil who works in Idli shop alleges that the accused did something which could create tension between Hindus and Muslims.

It’s worth noting that just a day ago, Vadodara Police had busted an organized gang which was spotting the couples in which girl is Muslim and boy is Hindu. The members of this network would then chase such couple and make videos and photographs and approach the parents of the girl and blackmail them to make the video of their daughter viral.Operating on Whatsapp this oragnized network in Vadodara was also functioning on a belief that Muslim girls must not befriend and have relation with Hindu boys.
