AMC debunks misleading viral video of crowded cow shelter in Danilimda

Ahmedabad: A video went viral on social media from the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) run cow shelter here in Danilimda. The video showcased that a lot of stray cows were crowded together in one area without even enough space to move. After the video went viral, some news outlets reported the news as irresponsible behavior of the authorities toward the animals. However, reality turned out to be different, as the video was taken while the cattle were moved to a different area for cleaning purposes.

After this false news went viral, AMC Deputy Commissioner Mihir Patel made a surprise inspection at the Cow Shelter today. After conducting the check at this facility, Patel stated that there are ample and suitable arrangements to house stray cattle here. The cows were being moved for cleaning purposes, and at that time, some individuals made a video and circulated it.

He also stated that the stray cattle are housed well within the capacity of such shelter houses.

Speaking to the media, Patel said, “Since September 1st, a total of over 1200 stray animals have been impounded by the Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) team of the AMC. The impounded animals are kept in 3 shelters run by the AMC. The video was from the Danilimda shelter house, which is divided into three sections. When a section is cleaned, the stray animals from that section are moved to another section, and at that time, an unknown individual captured the video and made it viral.”

The city civic body has been impounding the stray cattle continuously as they created a nuisance for travelers. The CNCD team has been working in this direction, even when instances of physical attacks on AMC staff had come to light.

Speaking about such altercations, the Deputy Commissioner said that a team of SRP and local police is sent along with the CNCD team, and in the last 7 days, around 20 FIRs have been filed in cases where the cattle impounding team was stopped or harassed. DeshGujarat
