Akshay Patra Foundation staffers on strike; No mid-day meals in Vadodara schools

Vadodara: The students of a government school in Vadodara will be deprived of the mid-day meal today due to the employees of the Akshay Patra Foundation, which provides meals in the school, being on strike over the long pending demands.

The Akshay Patra Foundation, run by the ISKCON, serves mid-day meals to approximately 625 schools in Vadodara district. Around 300 employees of the foundation have gone on strike due to irregular payment of salaries.

The employees complain that even when working for more than 10 to 12 hours instead of the scheduled 8 hours, they do not receive overtime pay. “There has been no raise in the remuneration for the old employees. How can we manage our households with a salary of only 5000-7000?” asked a female worker.

The employees’ demand for regular and timely payment of salaries has been pending for many years, and today it has led to this strike. DeshGujarat
