South Korean companies explore Dholera SIR for setting up display fab units

Dholera: Around six South Korean companies visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) recently with the intention of exploring opportunities to establish a display fabrication unit in Gujarat.

IAS Vijay Nehra, Managing Director of Dholera SIR, stated, “A delegation of various companies spent an entire day at Dholera SIR, it consisted senior representatives from the Korea Display Industry Association and the Director General of Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).”

The establishment of a display fabrication unit requires an estimated investment of Rs 70,000-75,000 crore over a period of 2-3 years, according to an official. Such a facility would enable local production of displays for devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, laptops, and more. Currently, China, South Korea, and Japan collectively control 65 percent of total production in the global display market.

“This is a good development, considering that Gujarat is also hosting Micron Technologies, which is in the process of establishing an Assembly, Test, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility for memory chips,” added the official. DeshGujarat
