Hirasar airport of Rajkot facing teething problems on various counts

Rajkot: Rajkot international airport will see increase in facilities gradually, said Airport Director Digant Borahe.

The airport will have 3 gates instead of 2 currently. It will have 9 lanes instead of 4 currently. The number of check-in counters will increases to 36 from 28 presently. Security check machines will increase to 10 from 5 currently. Passenger handling capacity will increase to 2800 from 1800 presently.

The airport director said that facilities will increase by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, there are complains that the new airport which is located 31 kms away from Rajkot city has not parking facility. The businessmen who need to park their vehicles and catch flight are not able to do so.

The other complain like no water supply in toilets was a short-time temporary glitch due to break down in pipe.

In another development, BJP leader Bharat Boghra has posted a video of Rajkot airport and stated that this airport has the longest 3 km runway in India. Boghra said the existing terminal of airport is temporary. He added that permanent terminal is under construction.

It’s worth noting that the new airport has started operating with effect from 10 September. It is witnessing lot of teething problems like any other mega project with public interface in starting days.
