Over 9600 evacuated; Level at Golden bridge may rise to 40 ft

Bharuch: At 12 noon today, the level of water at Golden bridge in Bharuch was 32.38 ft, well above the danger mark of 24 ft. According to the district collector of Bharuch, nearly 2,000 persons and 210 cattle were shifted to safer places in the last 24 hours period. The level of water in the river Narmada is likely to touch 40 ft level. The district administration is in the process of shifting more people to safer places before the river level rises to 40 ft.

The district administration has shut three roads for movement due to heavy water logging and rising levels. These three roads are Umalla – Asha – Panetha road, Bharuch – Shuklatrith – Zanor road and Tothidara – Tarsali road.

The district administration has declared a district control room number 02642242300 for any help needed in the wake of the flood situation.

Water release from upstream Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam started at noon on September 16 in 1.45 lakh cusecs volume which continued to increase. At noon today the outflow released from Narmada dam in the downstream river was 18.35 lakh cusecs.

Meanwhile, the government informed that nearly 1500 persons from 13 villages of 3 talukas in Vadodara district were shifted to safe locations. The villages were Pura, Alampura, Lilaipura, Oz, Nani Karol, Lilod, Shayar, Divabet among others in Karjan, Dabhoi and Shinor talukas. NDRF team rescued 20 persons trapped in Diva bet.

The district administration of Vadodara had called for the help of the Indian Air Force for rescue of 11 persons trapped in Vyas bet in Karjan taluka.
