Surat: Cadaver donation is an act of patriotism, said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday during the event here in the city. The event was organised by the Donate Life organisation, and 63 families of cadaver donors were honoured. Organ donation should be considered a sacred duty by individuals, Bhagawat added.

Bhagwat emphasised that organ donation is a form of desh bhakti, which translates to patriotic service to the nation. He stressed that when someone is declared brain dead, the idea of organ donation should naturally occur to their family members, and this act should be treated as a fundamental aspect of human life.

He commended NGO Donate Life for its contributions to organ donation and encouraged collaboration between the organisation and RSS volunteers to raise awareness about organ donation nationwide. Bhagwat praised the donors, referring to them as divine.

Nilesh Mandlewala, the president of Donate Life, shared that the NGO was established in 2005 and has received 1,173 organ donations to date, benefiting over 1,100 individuals not only in Surat but throughout India. He also noted the need for increased awareness, as in India, only one out of every 12 lakh people donates body organs. DeshGujarat
