Tender for demolition of Hatkeshwar flyover in 5 days: AMC Commissioner
September 30, 2023
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will release a tender for the demolition of the controversial Hatkeshwar flyover within the next five days, Municipal Commissioner M Thennarasan announced on Friday.
In April, a three-member expert panel had recommended the removal of the poorly constructed bridge. However, the reports were awaited on whether only the slabs of the bridge should be removed or even the pillars. After the reports suggested that even pillars are built in substandard fashion and they too need to be removed, the Hatkeshwar flyover, constructed in 2017, will become the first bridge in Gujarat’s history to be demolished in such a short timeframe. The flyover is located in the Eastern part of the city and shut down for traffic for a long due to its poor quality.
During the recent general board meeting, Jagdish Rathod, the chief whip of the opposition in the AMC and a Congress councilor from the Amraiwadi ward, questioned why the civic body had not yet taken action to dismantle the Hatkeshwar flyover despite the clear directive from the expert committee and the AMC’s announcement. In response, Thennarasan explained that the police investigation related to the case was still ongoing, but the municipal body would issue a demolition tender within four or five days. DeshGujarat
