October 02, 2023
Ahmedabad: Alliance Air flight from Udaipur to Ahmedabad and vice versa had to be cancelled on Sunday evening as one of the passengers on board opened the emergency gate of the aircraft by mistake or mischief.
On Sunday, a passenger opened an emergency gate of the flight just before the take-off of Udaipur – Ahmedabad flight at Udaipur airport. The scheduled take-off time was after 4.20 pm. The passenger faced the heat of the crew members following his surprising act of opening an emergency gate.
Emergency door of an aircraft is opened only when the aircraft lands in the water or suffers some issue at the runway. A slide attached to the emergency door opens on its own with the opening of the door. The passengers then can leave the plane in emergency using the slide.
As a passenger opened this door at Udaipur airport, the technicians had to work hard to wind up the slide and shut the door again. This took over four hours, following which the Ahmedabad – Udaipur flight had to be declared cancelled. 40 passengers at SVPI airport in Ahmedabad who were to board Ahmedabad – Udaipur flight had to go back to their homes following the cancellation of the flight.
