Ahmedabad: Union Territory Diu is now connected to Gujarat’s commercial capital Ahmedabad by air.

Indigo has announced Ahmedabad – Diu daily flights (barring Wednesdays) from October 29.

Flight 6E 7966 will leave Ahmedabad for Diu at 12.55 pm and flight 6E 7969 will leave Diu for Ahmedabad at 17.00 hours.

Flights will reach Diu at 14.10 hours and Ahmeadbad at 18.15 hours.

As per Indigo website, one-way fare on Ahmedabad – Diu – Ahmedabad route starts from Rs. 2499.

The journey will be 1.15 hour long on both sides.

Presently, Diu is connected to Ahmedabad, only by road. The journey takes around 8 to 9 hours.

Gujarat is a dry state. While many tourists from Gujarat visit Diu for a talk over a glass of beer, many others go there for beach tourism.

As Somnath and Sasan Gir are nearby (around two hours road distance from Diu), the Amdavadis may chose a flight to Diu to visit those places as well.

The hotels and taxi operators in Diu will definitely benefit with introduction of air connectivity between Gujarat’s main city and tourism island of Diu. DeshGujarat
