Three teenagers drown in Narmada river in Shinor during picnic

Shinor: Three teenagers drowned in the Narmada river here on Tuesday while visiting a well-known picnic spot during the Diwali vacation.

The teenagers, all friends, disappeared while bathing in the Narmada river at Diver village under Shinor taluka on Tuesday evening, according to Police Inspector AR Mahida of Shinor.

Shortly after entering the river water, the boys were swept away, and their lifeless bodies were found on Wednesday evening nearly 3 kilometers away from the initial spot, Mahida explained. The victims were identified as Kishan Vasava (15), Akshay Vasava (15), and Sohil Vasava (14), residents of Bhadari village in Vadodara district.

The trio, accompanied by three other friends, had come to Diver village, located on the Narmada riverbanks, to celebrate the Diwali vacation, Mahida stated. Diver is a renowned picnic destination.

“After almost 24 hours of search, fire brigade divers located the bodies of the three boys at Karjan, approximately 3 kilometers away from Diver. It is possible that the boys miscalculated the water depth and underestimated the speed of the river current,” Mahida noted.

An accidental death report has been filed at the Karjan police station. DeshGujarat
