Thunderstorm in Ahmedabad after Dust Storm

Ahmedabad: After a somewhat cloudy sky during the day and a dusty storm at around 6 pm, the city of Ahmedabad started receiving rainfall amid a thunderstorm through the evening. The rainfall could be around one inch on average and even more in some areas. This is the first widespread pre-monsoon shower in the city, while the official monsoon is expected to set in around June 15. Dozens of tree-falling incidents were reported across the city during the dust storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of even further rainfall in parts of Gujarat in the days to come due to Western Disturbances. For now, the rainfall has provided respite from the extreme heat, which is usual in the month of May in the city. Meanwhile, waterlogging was reported in parts of the city, particularly in low-lying areas.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Pakistan and adjoining southwest Rajasthan is influencing weather conditions in Gujarat and surrounding areas.

The bulletin states, “The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Pakistan & adjoining southwest Rajasthan extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.”

The IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers across all districts of Gujarat, Diu, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli over the next seven days. From May 5 to May 12, most districts, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Kutch, are expected to receive consistent rainfall. A significant fall of 3–5°C in maximum temperatures is also likely during this period, offering much-needed relief from the summer heat. DeshGujarat
