Bullet Train project awaiting railways nod for works in Kalupur-Sabarmati section
February 05, 2024
Sabarmati: The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project has encountered a setback, with work on the Ahmedabad section suspended due to a deadlock between the National High-Speed Railway Corporation (NHSRCL) and Western Railway (WR). The WR authorities have not approved the construction of the viaduct, leading to a standstill in progress since October 2023.
A source from the National High-Speed Railway Corporation (NHSRCL) informed Times Now that work between Sabarmati station and Kalupur station has stopped as the railways have not authorised a block for the third line passing through this 2km stretch.
As per the news report, the segment spanning from Kalupur to Shahibaug cabin is about 2.2km long and features three bidirectional lines. To carry out construction activities, including the installation of 290 piles, 58 pile caps, 58 piers, 58 pier caps, and noise barriers within this 2.2 km stretch, a two-year block is required on the third line. However, even after multiple letters, the NHSRCL is still awaiting a response.
Responding to this, the NHSRCL spokesperson stated that they have written to the railways and are expecting permission soon. He also referred to the potential delays as procedural formalities. The railway has not responded to media inquiries in the matter.
This required block will potentially affect train movement, and authorities are considering terminating trains from North India at Sabarmati instead of routing all through Ahmedabad. However, trains heading towards Mumbai or Vadodara would still pass through the affected area. DeshGujarat
