February 06, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today granted bail to Nikhil Donga, a notorious criminal from Rajkot, who had filed a bail petition in the High Court in 2022. The court of Judge Divyesh Joshi approved the bail for the petitioner. Donga’s lawyer, Tasneem Jhabuawala, mentioned that the petitioner is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Nikhil Donga, facing 117 charges, including extortion and contract killing, entered the world of crime in 2003. A complaint was filed against him at Gondal city police station in 2020, and he was booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act 3(1), 3(2), 3(4), 3(5), 4, and Section 120 B of the IPC. Despite a previous bail application filed in the Rajkot Sessions Court, which was rejected in October 2022, the Gujarat High Court granted bail today.
Nikhil Donga, who has been in jail continuously for the last 10 years, faced murder charges but was acquitted in 2023. The defense argued that he has been in jail under GUJCTOC since 2020, and no mobile phone was found in his possession.
Nikhil Donga initiated his criminal activities in 2003, founding the ‘Yuddh Ej Kalyan’ group in Gondal. With a total of 117 crimes allegedly committed, including six serious offenses while on parole, it is alleged that Nikhil Donga operated a criminal network even behind bars. Cases against the Nikhil Donga gang span various locations, including Gondal, Lodhika, Kotdasangani, Virpur, Bhayavadar, Jetpur, Bhaktinagar, Malvianagar, Rajkot taluka, Gandhigram, Pradyumnanagar, Crime Branch, Limbadi, Thane, Joravarnagar, and Keshod.
