AIIMS Rajkot to be fully ready in 1 year; PM to open 250-bed facility this month

Rajkot: Rs. 1195 crore 201-acre AIIMS hospital at Khandheri near Rajkot is being constructed for the last four years. The completion of this project is unlikely to take place by its target date of July 2024. So far three out of five towers are readied. The main building will take one more year for completion.
The Prime Minister on 25 February will inaugurate a 250-bed facility at AIIMS that shall have general medicine, surgery, gynec, pediatric, ENT, dermatology, dental etc department functional. As many as 70 doctors, 250 resident doctors, and 400 nursing staff will work here on a 24×7 basis.
Four operation theaters, 2 ICUs with 40 beds, and 3 rooms for postmortem will also be functional here.
In order to make a 250-bed hospital functional, Rs. 190 crore modern equipment, Rs. 22 crore furniture and Rs. 900 construction cost are involved. AIIMS has five towers A, B, C, D, E, out of which two wings A and B will house a 250-bed hospital which is going to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The other wings will take about one year to complete.
Rajkot AIIMS has a helipad facility which shall be used for air ambulance service. A drone service to supply up to 3 kg of medicines in a 40 km area is also likely to be launched.
Rajkot AIIMS has got Gujarat’s first modern VDIRL-3 facility laboratory for not just deliever medical reports to patients but also do research.
