Gujarat govt likely to move bill for auction of vehicles seized in prohibition cases

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government is likely to move a bill for making a way for speedier auction and sell of the vehicles seized in various cases of breach of prohibition law.
In last couple of years, the State police have seized over 10,000 vehicles in liquor prohibition and narcotics cases as per an estimate. Though market value of these vehicles is worth crores of Rupees when they are seized, the government can’t auction or sell them in that condition, due to pendency of related cases in the courts.
By the time, the courts clear the cases, the vehicles turn into scrap condition as they lie idle and unused for years in open. Such seized vehicles also occupy huge land in police campuses. Auction after the court verdict doesn’t yield much revenue due to scrap-like condition of vehicles. DeshGujarat
