Gujarat Assembly approves renaming of DAIICT as Dhirubhai Ambani University

Gandhinagar: Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) will now be known as Dhirubhai Ambani University, as a bill proposing the name change was unanimously passed in the Gujarat Assembly on Thursday. The bill aims to broaden the university’s scope to include education, training, and research in various subjects beyond information and communication technology.

Praful Pansheriya, Minister of State for Education, presented the Bill, receiving support from all members, including the Opposition Congress. Pansheriya stated that the university’s objective has been broadened to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, transforming it into a multidisciplinary education and research institution.

Under the revised scope, the university will offer courses in various fields such as engineering, mining, energy, environment, medical science, nursing, commerce, management, law, humanities, social sciences, architecture, fashion design, performing arts, mass media, journalism, sports, animal husbandry, agriculture, horticulture, forestry, fisheries, skill development, and any other subjects included in the NEP.

Congress MLA Arjun Modhwadia expressed support for the Bill but emphasized the importance of maintaining a focus on information and communication technology and producing experts in the field, despite the expansion into other subjects. DeshGujarat
