Artist Dev Pagli, ex-MLA, former candidate, others join BJP in Gujarat
March 19, 2024
Gandhinagar: Former MLA Joita Patel, ex-candidate Lebji Thakor and others including several Cine artists joined the BJP today at the State party headquarters. The most eye-catching name in the list was that of Dev Pagli, a popular rural Gujarati folk singer. There were just too many people on the stage in an unending queue to join the BJP.
The State Party chief CR Patil dropped the program midway and left the stage due to a huge number of new joiners. Many cine artists avoided going on the stage as there were just too many people on the stage. An artist cares for dignity. The function was not held in a dignifying manner it seemed. Artist Dev Pagli was not even recognized by party leaders including the State party chief CR Patil and he was treated like just another person. The same was the case for most others. The party needs to hold such joining events in a dignifying and orderly manner.
Dev Pagli in his reaction said, he is the son of Bavaji (Sadhu) and Ram Mandir is the main task that has been done by BJP apart from development, Modi ji and other things. I have been loving BJP since long, today I have formally dressed party’s scarf.
About Dev Pagli
The Hindi song ‘Chand Wala Mukhda’ has sparked a sensation nationwide, garnering immense popularity across all social media platforms. It has shattered records on Instagram reels, with over 47 lakh people creating reels featuring this song. Gujarati singer Dev Pagli has surpassed the likes of Badshah and Akshay Kumar in the reel race. Divyabhaskar recently conducted an exclusive interview with Dev Pagli, who skyrocketed to stardom overnight with this song. During the conversation, previously unknown details about Dev Pagli emerged for the first time.
Wanted to become an Actor or Cricketer
Hailing from Aseda village in Disa taluk of Banaskantha, Dev Pagli’s real name is Dev Puri. Before venturing into singing, he aspired to be a cricketer or an actor, prompting him to run away from home in pursuit of his dreams. Although he attempted to meet Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty in Mumbai, his efforts proved futile. Disheartened, he returned to Vadodara with hopes of pursuing a cricket career. A chance encounter with Irfan Pathan’s father at Nayan Mongia and Irfan’s house in Vadodara didn’t materialize his dreams of becoming a cricketer or actor.
Ran away from home
Dev Pagli remained away from home for an extended period, during which his father suffered from mental illness and eventually passed away. This tragedy led Dev Pagli to express to his mother that he would now strive to captivate the world.
‘Lakh Rupiya no Ghaghro’ became a turning point
Dev Pagli began his career as a lyricist, and he also had an opportunity to feature in a song by Kinjal Dave. Gradually, Dev Pagli ventured into singing, and his breakthrough came with the song ‘Lakh Rupee No Ghaghra’. This marked a turning point in his career, and thereafter, there was no turning back. Consequently, Dev Pagli captivated the nation with two consecutive hit songs, ‘Matla Upar Matla’ and ‘Chand Wala Mukhda’, all within a span of one month.
Did not build a new house, to remain in touch with roots
Dev Pagli has not built a concrete house in his village. He believes that by seeing his old house, he stays connected to his roots. Even after achieving success, this old house holds significance in maintaining his connection with the land. Following the immense success of the song “Chand Wala Mukhda,” Dev Pagli raised his fee from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 25 to 30 lakhs. However, there was a time when Dev Pagli’s mother and sisters had to work as laborers in the fields.
