Govt teacher detained for not reporting for poll duty in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A government school teacher in the city was detained after a warrant was issued against her for failing to fulfill her election duty obligations. Hinalben Prajapati, aged 36 and a teacher at Chainpur Primary School, was brought before Deputy Collector and Assistant Returning Officer Umang Patel.

It is learned that Prajapati was appointed as a booth-level officer (BLO) in the Ghatlodiya area of the city. Citing personal reasons, she declined the assignment. Following this, two notices were issued to her on February 1 and February 19 respectively. In response to the second notice, Hinal requested a change in duty location from Ghatlodiya to Gota, which is closer to her home, but her request was declined.

Later, a warrant was issued under the Representation of the People Act, and the teacher was taken to the regional revenue office in Gota. Deputy Collector and Assistant Returning Officer Umang Patel then granted her request to be stationed in Gota after she acknowledged the BLO duties.

An official stated that the polling body had issued two notices to her, to which she responded. However, she subsequently did not attend the meeting or respond to repeated phone calls from the office. DeshGujarat
