Sarthana Police book two in drink-and-drive case

Surat: Sarthana Police has arrested two individuals in a drink and driving case after a driver, intoxicated, crashed his car into a rickshaw, a bike, and three pedestrians in Sarthana. The accident resulted in the death of an elderly woman and serious injuries to an 8-year-old boy.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening near Sarthana Jakatnaka, and CCTV footage captured the entire sequence of events, showing the driver speeding and colliding with various vehicles and pedestrians. Among the injured, 65-year-old Gauriben Jivaraj Dholakia succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The collision also injured five others, including 8-year-old boy Ravji Rajputia, who was grievously injured and hospitalized at SMIMER Hospital.
Upon arrival at the scene, Sarthana police transferred Gauriben’s body to SMIMER hospital for post-mortem examination. Later, the police arrested Jitendra Jaswant Malviya (35), the driver of the car, who was driving in an inebriated condition. Additionally, Jitendra’s friend Nirav, who was a passenger, has also been arrested.
The accused driver confessed to the police that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol, intending to drop off a friend, and mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Legal proceedings have commenced against both Jitendra and his friend Nirav. DeshGujarat
