April 24, 2024
Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Sagar Pradhan for accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from an individual accused in a cheating case filed by the Mumbai police.
The complainant and their associate faced charges in a cheating case brought by the Mumbai police. Sagar, who served with the Surat police’s economic offense cell, took over the investigation after Mumbai police requested assistance. He apprehended the complainant’s associate and handed them over to the Mumbai police. Later, he demanded Rs 15 lakh from the complainant to avoid transferring him to Mumbai police custody and to release their belongings. Following negotiations, the agreement was settled at Rs 5 lakh.
As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, they contacted the ACB, which set up a sting operation near Mumbai Tadka restaurant in Katargam. Although PSI Sagar managed to evade capture, his brother Utsav Pradhan was apprehended by the ACB. DeshGujarat
