Voting for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 begins in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Voting for the third phase of the General Elections for Lok Sabha began today. Polling is being held in 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories (UTs), including Gujarat. 17.24 crore voters will be casting their votes across the 93 constituencies from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Across the state of Gujarat, a total of 4.97 crore voters, comprising 2.56 crore males, 2.41 crore females, and 1,534 individuals from the third gender, are supposed to cast votes in 50,788 polling booths.

Encouraging the voters to turn out in large numbers, PM Modi, in a post, said, “Urging all those who are voting in today’s phase to vote in record numbers. Their active participation will certainly make the elections more vibrant.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also going to participate in the voting process today as he casts his vote at Nishan School in the Ranip locality of Ahmedabad in his home state of Gujarat. This particular polling station holds significance for the Prime Minister, as it is located near the residence of his elder brother, Somabhai Modi. During both assembly and Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi consistently exercises his voting right at this booth, while for local elections, he opts for postal voting from the national capital, Delhi. As a voter, he will cast his ballot for the candidate contesting the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, which is again represented by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah. Shah is expected to accompany the Prime Minister during the voting process.

Amit Shah, on the other hand, is scheduled to cast his vote at 9:15 am at the Sub Zonal office, adjacent to Kameshwar Mahadev Mandir in the Naranpura locality of Ahmedabad. Despite residing in Thaltej, Ahmedabad, Shah’s previous family home is situated in the Naranpura area. In previous instances, Shah has been seen voting alongside his family, including his son, Jay Shah, who currently heads the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

CR Patil, the Gujarat BJP chief and candidate for the Navsari Lok Sabha seat, will cast his vote at 8:30 am at North Gujarat School, near Uma Bhawan, in the Bhatar locality of Surat. Given his responsibilities, Patil is expected to be actively engaged on polling day, gathering feedback and urging party members to encourage voter turnout.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to cast his vote at 8:30 am at booth number 99 in Shilaj Primary School in Ahmedabad, for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. Patel resides in the Shilaj area with his family.
