May 08, 2024
Gandhinagar: The polling for the 2024 general elections of Lok Sabha took place on Tuesday in 25 parliamentary constituencies of Gujarat. While the final figures of the voter turnout percentage are awaited, the estimated voter turnout in Gujarat stood at 59.51%, as per the Election Commission of India. According to the data by ECI, the Dediapada Assembly segment saw the highest voter turnout with 83.95%. However, the Gadhada assembly segment in Bhavnagar Lok Sabha seat saw the lowest voter turnout with only 44% of eligible voters coming out to vote.
The Dediapada assembly seat is represented by the Aam Aadmi Party (MLA) Chaitar Vasava, who is also the party candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from the Bharuch Lok Sabha Seat. The battle here was between Vasava vs. Vasava vs. Vasava, with incumbent MP Mansukh Vasava fighting on the BJP ticket, MLA Chaitar Vasava going into polls on the AAP ticket, and Dilip Vasava contesting on the ticket of the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP).
The Gadhada assembly segment, which witnessed the lowest voter turnout in the state, falls in the Bhavnagar Lok Sabha seat. The BJP had given the ticket to Nimuben Bambhaniya, while as the contestant of INDI Alliance, Umesh Makwana of AAP, is in the poll fray. Gadhada falls in the Saurashtra region which has been witnessing Kshatriya agitation over the remarks of Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, this might have led to the low voter turnout.
A total of 15 assembly segments saw a voter turnout of over 70%, while on the other hand, 14 assembly seats had polling percentages below 50%. DeshGujarat
