Ahmedabad: A divisional fire officer of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) suffered respiratory issues from smoke inhalation while extinguishing a fire at Tutorial Market near Teen Darwaza late Thursday night.
Kaizad Dastoor, the divisional fire officer of AFES and in charge of the Gandhinagar fire brigade, was engaged in the firefighting operation when his oxygen mask ran out of supply, forcing him to remove it. He quickly exited the site but had inhaled smoke and carbon, leading to health problems. Dastoor was rushed to SVP Hospital in Ellisbridge, where his condition is reported to be stable.
The fire broke out in the basement parking area of Tutorial Market in Ahmedabad’s walled city on Thursday evening. No casualties were reported in the fire. The basement housed numerous parked vehicles and stored artificial flowers. Approximately 40 AFES personnel and 17 fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the fire and clear the smoke, with the operation taking three to four hours. DeshGujarat
