Veraval: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and a middleman in a bribery case in Gir Somnath district. The accused in this case are HK Varu, a Police Sub-Inspector at Una Police station, and Vijay Jethwa, his aide and middleman. Jethwa was apprehended after falling into an ACB trap. The amount of bribe taken was Rs. 1 lakh, and the bribe was exchanged on Gir Gadhra road.
According to the ACB, a friend of the complainant was detained for a prohibition violation offense. PSI Varu was handling the investigation of this case. Varu allegedly demanded a bribe to refrain from assaulting the detainee during remand and from falsely implicating the complainant. Initially, Varu demanded Rs. 5 lakh, but after negotiation, he settled on a bribe amount of Rs. 1 lakh. When the complainant refused to pay the bribe, they contacted the ACB, which subsequently organized a trap resulting in the arrest of the middleman after he accepted Rs. 1 lakh on behalf of Varu. Varu remains at large while the middleman has been apprehended. DeshGujarat
