BJP raises its tally in Gujarat assembly to 161 seats

Gandhinagar: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured victory in all five Assembly seats where by-polls were conducted, increasing its presence from 156 to 161 seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

The BJP nominated four candidates who had resigned from the Congress and Vidhan Sabha to join their ranks. These individuals include Arjun Modhwadhia from Porbandar, C J Chavda from Vijapur, Chirag Patel from Khambhat, and Arvind Ladani from Manavadar. Dharmendrasinh Vaghela, who initially won as an Independent candidate from Waghodia in 2022, later aligned with the BJP and was nominated from the same constituency.

After the resignation of these four former Congressmen, the Congress party’s MLA tally stands at 13.

So, after their MLAs take the oath of office, the BJP will have 161 seats, Congress will have 13 seats. Additionally, there is one seat held by the Samajwadi Party, four by the Aam Aadmi Party, and two by Independent candidates.

The Visavadar Assembly seat will remain vacant for the time being as by-elections were not conducted for this seat due to ongoing legal proceedings. DeshGujarat
