ACB books RMC Fire Officer for possessing disproportionate assets

Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has booked Bhikhabhai Theba, the deputy fire officer of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), for possessing disproportionate assets. This action comes after an investigation initiated following the May 25 TRP Game Zone fire that claimed 27 lives.

Theba, who was among the first responders to the fire incident, has been accused of accumulating disproportionate assets valued at over Rs 79.94 lakh.

In a joint operation with the Rajkot Crime Branch on May 30, the ACB conducted searches at Theba’s offices and residences, as well as those of other Rajkot Municipal Corporation officials, in relation to the TRP Game Zone incident.

Theba has been booked under sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act in an FIR filed by the Rajkot city ACB, accused of engaging in corrupt practices from April 2012 to March 2024 by allegedly abusing his official position as a public servant.

The ACB determined that Theba’s alleged disproportionate assets were over Rs 79.94 lakh, which is approximately 67.27 percent more than his legitimate income during this period.
