Further delayed progress of Southwest Monsoon 2024 in Gujarat
June 22, 2024
Gandhinagar: The Southwest monsoon 2024, which made onset in Navsari of South Gujarat, on June 10, has not progressed further, causing delayed rainfall in most parts of Gujarat. It has been over 10 days since the monsoon entered Gujarat, but it has only brought incessant rains to Valsad and Navsari, both districts in southern Gujarat, while the rest of Gujarat continues to suffer from heat.
Typically, the southwest monsoon reaches South Gujarat by June 15th, Ahmedabad by June 20th, and covers Saurashtra and the Rajkot-Jamnagar area by June 25th, progressing to Kutch by June 30th. However, this year, conducive weather systems such as monsoon lows or cyclones that facilitate the monsoon’s advance are absent.
As a consequence, Gujarat may experience a delay in receiving significant monsoon showers, with only light rainfall expected in coastal areas over the next week.
Forecasted Monsoon Progression
According to forecasts, the monsoon is expected to reach Saurashtra and Central Gujarat by June 25th and extend across the entire state by June 30th, encompassing North Gujarat and Kutch.
