One-year-old succumbs to dog attack injuries after 20-day fight for life in Surat

Surat: A one-year-old boy, after fighting for his life for 20 days, succumbed to injuries from a dog attack on Monday in the city. Gunjan Mali, the son of Mohan Mali and his wife Sheela, was sleeping near a construction site where his parents were working in Tatathaiya village when a stray dog pulled him from his cradle and mauled him on June 3.
Gunjan was immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment and later transferred to Surat Municipal Corporation’s SMIMER Hospital. Doctors at SMIMER Hospital reported that Gunjan underwent surgery for severe head and facial injuries, including damage to one eye. Despite being treated in the pediatric ICU, he passed away on Monday.
The police registered a case of accidental death, and an official stated, “We will also gather statements from the construction site supervisor and owner to obtain more details. The couple was working at the construction site and staying in a tent where they had placed a cradle for their only son, Gunjan. Based on the statements of the construction site owner and supervisor, we will determine our next action.” DeshGujarat
