False ceiling collapse at SMC community hall leaves 10 injured in Surat
July 01, 2024
Surat: The false ceiling of Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Khatodara community hall collapsed on Sunday during a haldi ceremony. At least 10 people were injured in the mishap, with one person suffering a head injury.
The sudden collapse caused panic among guests, prompting them to scatter, leading to the cancellation of the ceremony.
The incident occurred amid heavy rain in the city, prompting several fire teams to respond for rescue operations. However, the hosts had already transported the injured to nearby hospitals and clinics, after some of them got initial treatment at the hall.
To prevent further collapse, the fire brigade teams removed the damaged parts of the dangling false ceiling structure.
Following an investigation, SMC officials confirmed that there was no water seepage from the ceiling. Instead, the incident was attributed to loose screws in the structure. DeshGujarat
