AMC allocates ₹97 crore for purchase of firefighting equipment

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a ₹97 crore proposal for the purchase of advanced equipment for the city’s fire brigade. With the recent approvals for the construction of buildings up to 33 stories, equipping the fire brigade with advanced tools for rescue operations in high-rise emergencies has become essential. To address this need, the AMC plans to procure 26 pieces of equipment, including Mini High Pressure Tenders, boom towers, snorkels, water bowers, and boom water bowers.

Among the ordered equipment, some items are expected to arrive by the end of September, while the rest will be delivered by December this year. Notably, a snorkel, also known as an aerial hydraulic platform, with a height of 70 meters and costing ₹21 crore, is scheduled for delivery in August 2025.

Standing Committee Chairman Dwang Dani emphasized the importance of acquiring this equipment to effectively manage relief and rescue operations. He stated that these advancements will provide emergency services and help minimize casualties during fire incidents in the city’s high-rise buildings. The procurement will include mini fire fighting vehicles, larger capacity water bowser vehicles, and boom towers of 20 meters and 70 meters, enabling them to throw water to heights of up to 30 meters and reach buildings of 100 meters.
