Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam over 83 percent full; Level above 133 m, inflow over 3.88 lakh cusecs

Gandhinagar: At 7 pm today, Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam was 83.66 percent full with the level of water at 133.72 m.

Against heavy inflow of over 3.88 lakh cusecs from upstream, the outflow in river bed was nearly 45,000 cusecs in addition to nearly 12,000 cusecs outflow in canal. With constant heavy inflow, further release of water is likely, even by opening gates on Sunday.

In another news, the level of water at Ukai dam is racing towards the rule level. The level in Ukai at 7 pm today was 102.07 m, just below the rule level of 102.11 m prescribed for the period before 1st September. Ukai was 76.83% full with inflow of over 46,000 cusecs and outflow of over 45,500 cusecs in river bed. Four gates are opened in 1.22 m size for last two days. The full level in the dam is 105.16 m which can’t be allowed till 1st September as the prescribed rule level is 102.11.

While Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam is the largest dam in Gujarat, Ukai is the second larest. DeshGujarat
