Nine gates of Narmada dam opened for 1.35 lakh cusecs water release

Update at 10 pm: Discharge from Narmda dam rose to nearly 1.50 lakh cusecs at 10 pm against 2.48 lakh inflow at the level of 135.29 m. The dam was 88.80 percent full. The release of water in Tapi was in the size of nearly 60,000 cusecs against inflow of little more. The dam was 76.89 percent full and the level was 102.08 m just below 102.11 which is the rule level.

Gandhinagar: Nine gates of Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam were opened today morning after 6 am for release of water into downstream of river Narmada. It is for the first time in ongoing monsoon season this year, that the gates of this dam are opened. The gates are opened in 1.5 m measurement. The gates were opened after the level of water reached 134.68 m mark.

At 10 am today, the level was 134.84 m with 87.33% storage achieved. The inflow was over 3.33 lakh cusecs while outflow was over 1.34 lakh cusecs in river bed and over 15,000 in canal. The full reservoir level is 138.68 m in tis dam.

The district collector of Bharuch stated that upto 2 lakh cusecs water is going to be released, but at the present stage, there’s no possibility of water level crossing the danger mark in Narmada river. However the people should stay away from venturing into the low lying areas on the bank of the river.

Precautionary actions are taken in 25 villages of Shinor, Dabhoi and Karjan talukas are taken and Talatis and liason officers of these villages are asked to stay at the headquarters. These villages are located on the bank of river Narmada. Dabhoi taluka’s Chandod, Karnali, Nanderiya, Shinor taluka’s Ambali, Barkal, Diver, Malsar, Dariyapura, Moletha, Zansad, Kanjetha, Shinor, mandva, Surashamal and Karjan taluka’s Pura, Alampura, Rajli, Lilaipura, Nani Koral, Moti Koral, Juna Sayar, Sagrol, Oz, SAomaj, Delvada and Arajpura are among these villages. The water according to the State government is being released due to continuous rainfall in upstream areas and release of water from Omkareshwar dam. The operation of six units of River Bed Power House is ongoing.
