AMC introduces new SOPs for tower crane use
August 15, 2024
Ahmedabad: To enhance safety at construction sites and avoid traffic congestion, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for the use of tower cranes.
Under the new SOP, builders must secure a competency certificate under the Factories Act and obtain safety certifications from relevant authorities. Structural stability inspections by third parties are mandatory. Additionally, the SOP restricts crane movements on roads during peak traffic hours to prevent delays. Developers who fail to comply with these regulations may face fines and legal consequences.
The SOP also includes provisions for installing aircraft warning lights, safety cordons, and signage around cranes.
Municipal Commissioner M. Thennarasan stated, “The unregulated use of tower cranes has posed significant risks to public safety. These guidelines are crucial for reducing hazards and ensuring city-wide order.”
