PGVCL witnesses huge jump in Agri power demand; Gujarat govt announces 10 hours supply in areas of Saurashtra, Kutch

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has decided to extend 10 hours power supply to save groundnut and other standing crops in Saurashtra and Kutch districts following a gap in rainfall. The areas that are to be benefitted include Jamjodhpur, Lalpur, Manavdar, Vanthali, Mendarda, Keshod, Mangrol, Maliya Hatina talukas and entire Kutch district.
Energy minister Kanubhai Desai said from 27 August to 23 September, peak power demand has increased from 55 million units to 154 million units in case of PGVCL. In agriculture sector, peak demand incresed from 187 mw to 5820 mw during this period for PGVCL. It shows increased demand in agriculture sector for power in Saurashtra-Kutch areas.
Gujarat’s peak power demand on 27 August was 12,157 mw which increased to 24,205 mw on 23 September. The government is procuring additional power from high-costing gas plants central region’s generating stations and real time market. DeshGujarat
