2 cops held for drinking outside Ahmedabad CP’s office; two on the run

Ahmedabad: The city police have arrested two police personnel along with one barber after a video of four cops drinking outside the new Ahmedabad Police Commissionerate went viral. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday while Dussehra rituals were being held at the new CP office in Shahibaug. Two other cops involved in the case are still at large.

After the video came to light, Commissioner G.S. Malik ordered a comprehensive investigation. An FIR was filed with the Madhavpura police, stating that four policemen—Vinod Damor, Jujar Pagi, Raju Baria, and Amitsinh Gol—were drinking at a barber shop. The barber was traced through the registration number of the motorcycle seen in the viral video and subsequently arrested. During the interrogation, the barber, Sanjay Nai (41), a resident of Narol, stated that he was offered alcohol and asked to allow the accused officers to hold their outdoor drinking party at his location. The FIR also noted that Nai was under the influence during questioning.

A police officer stated that the barber was given 30ml of liquor in exchange for fetching water and snacks and disposing of empty snack packets and glasses. However, he forgot to dispose of the packets and left soon after the party, citing other important commitments. When the investigating officers arrived at the scene after viewing the viral video, they found empty glasses and snack packets, which they seized as evidence.

Nai and ASI Vinod Damor, a driver for the Maninagar Police Inspector, were arrested on Saturday. Amit Singh Gohil, a driver for the Sarkhej Police Inspector, surrendered to the police on Sunday. Meanwhile, Head Constable Jujar Pagi and Constable Raju Bariya, who are believed to have supplied the alcohol, remain at large. DeshGujarat
